New and noteworthy in Renton.

First things first. Four Generals Brewing  opens this Friday, July 22nd, at noon. 229 Wells Ave S, beautiful downtown Renton. As Martha Stewart would say " It's a good thing."

The Renton River Days parade is this Saturday, July 23rd, at 10 AM, in beautiful downtown Renton. S. 3rd St.( Renton's main drag) will be closed for the parade. It's a fun parade that nicely reflects Renton's diversity. It might be ruined this year by politicians running for office.  If you see some doofus in a pea suit marching in the parade, yeah, that's probably me.

Uwajimaya(501 S. Grady Way) has fresh Yukon River Keta salmon filets for 9.99 per pound. You may be asking " Keta salmon? Isn't that another name for pink salmon? The cheap stuff? "
Well, technically, yes, Sockeye and King salmon are usually richer, and more flavorful. But Yukon River's salmon are so especially rich and fatty(in a good way), that the Yukon River Keta salmon actually has a higher Omega 3 fat content than Copper River Sockeye. Anyway, it's special melt in your mouth goodness, and a steal at 9.99 per pound.

Blossom Belly will be opening soon at 617 S. 3rd St in downtown Renton, just east of Smoking Monkey Pizza. What's Blossom Belly? Culture culture, a Kombucha bar.

Finally, Renton now has a Romanian restaurant. Sunset Bistro, 354 Sunset Blvd N. It used to be Sunset Gyro, and they still serve gyros and shwarma, but now also have Romanian specialties like schnitzel, eggplant salad, stuffed cabbage, roast lamb, meatball soup, and dessert crepes.
The food's good.

The reputation of Renton(Outside of Renton) is that it's some kind of cultural wasteland, or a dangerous ghetto, or soulless suburb. The people who actually live in Renton know differently.

  1. THANK YOU! I saw Four Generals when I went downtown for the Farmer's Market on Tuesday - I parked in front of it - and it looked AWESOME! People were there doing a flight tasting. Maybe media or friends. I also saw Blossom Belly. CAN'T WAIT!!
