Beer: It's Not Just For Breakfast.

I know what you're thinking " That Freakazoid Freddy, he must be in his 50's, but you'd never know it by how mentally sharp he is. He's sharp as a tack . Hasn't declined one iota. I wonder what his secret it?"

Here's my secret:

Yup. An antioxidant in hops apparently helps ward off dementia, and the Seattle area has many breweries that specialize in hoppy beers.  Renton has two breweries, Herbert B. Friendly, and Strong Arm. Both of these are tiny, and the beer is made adjacent to the brewer's homes. Renton does not have a brewery tap room where you can hang out and drink and eat. But nearby Tukwila does.

Odin Brewing opened their facility in Tukwila last summer, and serves all of their beer, and barbecue made on the premises. They've got Trivia every Wednesday. It's a friendly, comfortable space, and the beer is awesome.

The flagship is "Odin's Gift" an ale brewed with juniper berries. Delicious, well balanced, and complex.

Freya's Gold is their Kolsch, a smooth, crisp, and refreshing, what many would call a "Summer" beer, but is good any time of year.

Asgard is their IPA. A little less bitter than other IPAs, and a bit more citrusy, it goes down easy. I'm not usually a fan of IPA's, I often find them too bitter. But Asgard is much more approachable.

They also do a Baltic Strong Ale and an Abbey Single Belgian, neither of which I've developed a taste for.

They also have limited release, seasonal beers. The German Style Harvest lager is among the best beers I've ever had, and one that I'd love for them to brew year round. Has just a tiny bit of a malty taste, and a beautiful color. It's the kind of beer that's really hard to drink just one of, and pairs well with any kind of food.

They've just started brewing a Double IPA, which I'll steer clear of. Can't like everything.

But I do like Odin,
10 years ago, if you asked me what a growler is, I'd have said that a lion is a growler. But no. A growler is a 64 ounce container for beer. Breweries fill growlers, and you take them home. In Seattle, a growler fill usually ranges from eight to about fourteen dollars. Most of Odin's cost nine dollars, and half price on Sundays, which is the least expensive growler fill I've seen. That's as cheap of pisswater Budweiser. I own a few growlers.

Anyway, Odin.  Go there. Kids are allowed. It's a block east of Southcenter Mall, a couple of doors east of the California Pizza Kitchen. You can bring your own food into Odin, but the ribs and chicken and pulled pork are very good, so why would you?
